After a quick lap around Henry Maier Festival Park spent trying to brush off the winter confusion and get into fest mode, I landed on the bleachers of the Warehouse Stage where “Crocodyle” was already playing. The alternative rock band was already engaging with the early bird crowd who seemed to be vibing. A challenging feat for any early set let alone at a venue with seats!
The band even saw success in getting a small crowd to participate in a call-back song. Which again is a feat for a new band whose audience may have never even heard of them before. Yes, that would be me! Yet they did get some audience members involved.
In between most of the songs, the members took time to give a fact about Crocodiles (the animals) that led into their next song. Personally, I loved this because not only did it make them more personable and engage with the audience, but it also gave them time to reiterate their name (once the crowd knew it) and drop the names of songs.
In my opinion, these introductions were a great way to transition into their 90’s ‘s-inspired punk rock music. Overall, their songs were creative, fun, and upbeat. It was incredibly easy to jam and dance to the music. Despite it being 1:45 pm, and my first set of the day, their energy was contagious!
The song “Rats of the Night” not only had a cool tune, but the words held a lot of meaning to me. It’s about going out and being yourself. It almost perfectly told how it feels to not fit into a place or certain situation. Although, it encourages and focuses on the power of being brave and showing up as you!
The Early Birds Catch “Crocodyle”
Now coming in late, I missed the introduction of the band. Yet, with the consistent info on crocodiles, I kind of knew that had to do something with who they were. About halfway through a member of the crowd shouted to the band, politely during their talking moments, asking for their name. Which helped me immensely as they confirmed my suspicions and said they were “Crocydle.” That same member of the crowd asked later on for socials from them. I’d suspect they gained a new super fan!
