For a 4 o’clock Saturday show the Warehouse Stage was absolutely packed. And when I say packed, I mean packed, the show was standing-room only. This stage even has bleachers, and they were full! To say nothing of the fact that this was before Spin Doctors had even made their appearance.
Considering it was the first show of the day for us we were almost overwhelmed by the amount of people gathered in the space. Sure, we knew it was the weekend before the 4th of July, which happened to fall on a Tuesday. Crowds were expected. Just later in the day.
Overall, Spin Doctors was by far the largest non-headlining crowd we had seen yet. And there sure was a lot of energy in the audience.
Spin Doctors Take Us Back
The set started with “Boom Box” which really set the stage for their performance of high-energy 90s be-boppy music.
As the set started to get spinning, everyone was having a good time. The band was up on stage having an absolute blast just doing what they love. Given the group’s pedigree, there was no need to show off or impress anyone they were able to just have fun. And it showed! That very natural carefree fun attitude drifted to the crowd, who were ecstatic to be at Summerfest bopping along to the music.
When it came to the set itself there was a lot of movement on stage. Chris Barron, the lead singer even showed off his high kicks throughout the show, and the entire band grooved.
The band who had rocked out at Summerfest several times before had carved out a lengthy time slot. They filled it with tons of music! Although they chatted with the audience here and there.
Before long the set came to its expected end with the song “Two Princes.” You could tell it was the song everyone had been awaiting. As soon as the first riff rang out the crowd went wild, partying out like the 90’s never ended.
When it was over the Spin Doctors did an encore. Which was an interesting take. Most festival sets don’t include an encore. Making the true ending song, “Yo Mamas Pajamas.”
After the show, we waited for the crowd to disperse then grabbed up bleacher seats as our next set of the day also happened to be at the Warehouse stage.
Spin Doctors will be playing WAMM Fest on August 16 in Greenwood Indiana.
