A New Brunch Cafe Location!

After exploring the Chicago Botanic Gardens we were simply ravenous and in desperate need of lunch. Unfortunately, a quick Google search left us unimpressed and our hunger drove us to the disappointing conclusion that fast food was in our near future. Or so we had thought! Luckily, as we followed Google’s directions, we passed a Brunch Cafe. After a quick “stop the vehicle” from my mother the car U-turned as the GPS angrily chirped at us for disregarding its directions. It was just too good an alternative to pass up.

The Brunch Cafe has been a local favorite since the OG location in Fox River Grove opened in 2008. The brunch spot has since grown into a local chain with several locations scattered throughout the Chicago Suburbs.

At the Deerfield Location

Today we were at one of their newest locations in Deerfield. Before we even entered, we were ready and excited for the Lemon Poppy Seed Crepe, a perennial favorite of ours. After a brief deliberation, my mom and I decided to do our split meal plan. It is simply the best way to be able to try two items. As a bonus it also allows you to get something both sweet and savory.

Together we ordered the Lemon Poppy Seed Crepe and The Chicken Salad sandwich. We each got half a sandwich, some fries, and one crepe from both meals.

I started with the Chicken Salad Sandwich. The cranberries added a pop of flavor. There was also a slight crunch to the munch with the nuts and celery. Overall, it was a very generous portion with the bread stuffed to the gills with chicken salad.

The Lemon Poppy Seed Crepe was delicious as I remembered. It really reminded me why it is my go-to choice. First of all, Lemon Poppy Seed is one of my favorite flavors and I have not seen it done in a crepe form anywhere else yet! Also, instead of the normal stuffed crepe, the Brunch Cafe deconstructs it with the ‘stuffing’ being used as a topping. I personally prefer this as it lets me get some of that sweet goodness in every bite.

On top of the crepe is this lemon drizzle that adds a bit of sweetness, pairing well with the kiwi and blackberry piled upon the crepe.

One thing that was a bit different about this location was its size. The Deerfield location is huge in comparison to the original. It was so nice to see it bustling with people.

A Classy Style

The restaurant itself is presented in that clean modern style. It is incredibly airy and bright. In my opinion, it balanced being local and also being a chain incredibly well.

Sure, it had that one egg picture that literally is a staple of every breakfast place. Though that egg staple is, in a way, equivalent to a Blue Jean Jacket.  What woman doesn’t own a Blue Jean Jacket?!

Our first time going to the new location left us just as impressed as we always are with our Fox River Grove brunches!

Tired from our morning walk and carrying full bellies from a delicious brunch we began the journey back home.

  1. I didn’t realize the Brunch Cafe had so many locations to choose from! Looking forward to visiting one in the near future as the OG FRG and McHenry locations have honestly never disappointed.
