Ghoulish Mortals a Writers journey through a Monster Store

I don’t do horror. Never. Ever. Yet here I stood outside of Ghoulish Mortals. The store oozing spooky. Erie music playing out front and a flower pot of faced plants. Although slightly on edge. I was about to brave the store out of curiosity. Curiosity killed the cat but 8 lives remain. 

I don’t want to give away all the thrills but it was positively theatric. Luckily the first floor was Disney spooky and not traditionally scary. It was less fear inducing than a spirit Halloween. Why does spirit Halloween feel the need to use a jump scare animatronic right by their entrance?!  

Ghoulish Mortals first floor had a section of inspired items from the Haunted Mansion, merchandise and the plant itself from Little Shop of Horrors and of course there was a tribute to Stranger Things. We were so excited to find a space dedicated to D&D. 

Most of the items on the wall creating the adventure were for sale. Made and created by several different artists. 

Downstairs

And then there was the basement. The downstairs. Here our light spooky vibes took a dive into the traditional horror. My fears reawakened. Needless to say I took a quick spin around for the sake of this piece and then ran back upstairs. 

Nothing moved but I found myself falling for a few jump scare spots. 

Overall, Ghoulish Mortals was a really neat shop. I loved how theatrics and art came together to create a one-of-a-kind remarkable shopping experience. The layout was so thoughtfully pieced together.

I really appreciated the separation of light spookiness from the traditional scary. If you aren’t a horror fan like me but enjoy the haunted mansion ride at Disney, you can still enjoy this shop. Just avoid the basement which is personally what I will do next time I go. 

As someone who adores theater and a good show I was impressed by the immersive experience. I also love the opportunity to support artists.
