Although Dehd played Lollapalooza on the T-Mobile stage, one of the main stages, they still kept their 2:30 set on August 6 intimate. The Chicago band engaged festivalgoers in a show that had a comfy basement feel, even if the set was in Grant Park.
Their screen-saver-inspired background took me back to the early 2000s. The band name, Dehd, bounced around the large screen with clip art of butterflies, clouds, and a plumber. I thought the simple set was quite fun and clever. It also gave the stage some flair without being too much. Giving the audience a chance to focus on the music.
The fashion vibe matched the rest of the feel, with cool chill accessories. Emily Kemph wore a purple bandana with lace and large orange sunglasses that looked like fashion-forward safety wear. She also wore a purple plaid pleated skirt with artistic patches. Paired with the skirt were white go-go boots.
The music was vibey. Tunes you might turn on to relax, unwind and chill. Music to sway to. A huge tonal shift from where we had just come from, UPSHALS dance set.
Emily Kemph has a unique voice that seems to excel at hitting these beautiful low notes with a rasp to it. She also floats to these middle-high notes that have this sweet charm to them. The song “Loner” showcases her range and talent well. I also enjoyed “Bad Love”, one of their upbeat songs. It has a fun and catchy tune.
Dehd will be performing their last Midwest show of the year in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 19. Tickets for most of their shows start around $21 a person.
