Carly Rae Jepsen: Artist Spotlight Lollapalooza 2023

In a long, sheer, baby blue gown Carly Rae Jepsen came out onto Lollapalooza’s Bud Light Stage. She was welcomed by screams and cheers from fans of all ages! Taking the stage on a warm summer evening, Jepsen wasted no time in setting the tone for an unforgettable musical journey that left the audience on an undeniable high.

Her backup dancers and she danced almost non-stop the entire show! And for that matter, the audience was dancing along as well. I tiredly bopped along with the last bit of energy I had.

The first day of Lollapalooza had worn me out, and it turned out that Carly Rae Jepsen’s 7:00 set was going to be the last of the day for us.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Carly Rae Jepsen show without a “Call Me Maybe” moment. Just when you thought you’d left 2012 behind, there you were, belting out the chorus with the fervor of someone who had just found their high school yearbook. Making use of her strong back-ups, the crowd, she let the audience carry the song while she went into the sea of people. Giving out high-fives, and hugs and letting fans take selfies with her.

Throughout the set Carly Rae Jepsen’s used her long dress as a stage prop. Swinging it back and forth she surged across the stage.

Carly Rae Jepsen: Does a Live Fashion Fix

After a few songs, it became apparent that Carly was tired of her seemingly now too-long dress. Soon she asked for someone to come out with scissors. A crew member hustled out and just chopped the dress on stage.

I, personally, was a bit shocked. Who just cuts a beautiful dress?! Fashion crisis averted (started?!)

Afterwards she was able to move about more freely and dance with a little less of worry of tripping and falling. Which was nice because even as an audience member I was concerned the dress was going to take her down!

As the sun set and the sky turned into a canvas of stars, Carly Rae Jepsen closed her set with the anthemic “Cut to the Feeling.” A fun upbeat song about getting to the good part of a relationship. The crowd sang along at the top of their lungs. Celebrating not just a performance, but a shared moment of pure joy and unbridled enthusiasm.

As Jepsen took her final bow, it was evident that she had left an indelible mark on Lollapalooza 2023, proving once again that her music is a universal language that can bring people together in the most magical of ways.

At this time, Carly Rae Jepsen only has 3 shows listed on her site. Out of the 3, the only one in the U.S. is on September 30th in Washington D.C. at the All Things Come festival. Fellow performers include Maggie Rogers, Mt. Joy, and Fletcher.
