Walk the Moon: Artist Spotlight Summerfest 2023

Summerfest 55 came to a close on July 8, 2023, the only way that made sense, was with a dance party. Walk The Moon made sure of it, moving the crowd with their party anthem jams.

I’m unsure if it was the completion of our home project or just the fact that Summerfest was ending but it was one of the sets, I put down my phone, aka my pen and paper, and let the moment be.

For me the set was a string of those mini moments. Moments where a crowd of strangers came together for a bit of time to celebrate what connects us. To me that is part of what music is, a great connector. Tune after tune, people danced and sang along. The artists on stage gave their all including a whole lot of soul into the performance. Frontman Nicholas Petricca ran and danced across the stage from one side to the next, trying to connect with the entire audience. On top of it all he was singing, dancing, and playing instruments.

Walk The Moon Feels the Love

Although we did not catch his earlier 4 O’clock acoustic set, the Cincinnati-based group seemed to be feeling the support of their fans.

During one of Petricca’s story times, he shared how the Q&A moderator for that set had asked him what he hopes his legacy will be. Which, to be fair, is a huge question. So, he shared with us his answer and how he hopes that his songs will help someone.

After that story time the set dove into “Different Colors.” Which was a super powerful song to hear live. It felt like the song meant a lot to the artist and the surrounding fans.

The artist played a cover of the Killers song “All These Things I’ve Done” which really showed the artist’s range as he beautifully reached a high note. That kind of blew me away, to be honest. There’s something to be said about singers confidently and effortlessly going for notes at the top of their range.

How to join the party?

Unfortunately, if you are looking to catch Walk The Moon live, they only have one show scheduled for the rest of the year. On the bright side, however, that means it is a great travel opportunity. The group will play a set on November 3rd in Las Vegas, NV at SEMA Fest. 2-day tickets are selling for $179. Other performers include Image Dragons, Incubus, and AJR.
