We scrambled to find food before Letdown who was playing a 7:30 set. It was, after all, dinner time. Although we were familiar with Summerfest’s grounds, as this was our 3rd day at the fest, we still had yet to find a food place that seemed to be the right fit for us.
Wandering around the fest hungry and aware that the set was coming up was not the brightest idea but at that point, it was our only option. None of the food vendors quite seemed to fit our mood (or our price point!) So, with roughly 10 minutes to go before the starting time, we looped back to a sub shop we had earlier passed.
For only $8.25 I got a full-on Italian Special. Jake and I also shared a delicious Cherry Lime shake! With Subs in our hands, we rushed to the Generac Power Stage and sat down. Letdown. had already begun.
Letdown. was one of the artists I was most looking forward to seeing that day! I had seen them perform at Wicker Park Fest 2021 and was thrilled to be able to see them on stage again!
Dinner and a show: Letdown.
Luckily, we hadn’t missed too much, and the artist was bringing the energy. Torn between trying to eat and jam out I awkwardly yet confidently did both. It might have gone something like this… Sandwich to the left and sandwich to the right and take a bite. Repeat.
For real though, the crowd was participating in sing-alongs and had their hands up waving to the beat. Like the entire time!
The Chicago based rockers naturally looked and performed with the grace and presence of true stars. They were “running” across the stage ensuring to interact with the entire crowd. They were headbanging with their long flowy hair and to top it off the vocals were insanely good!
It was the voices that carried the song, which can be a feat with loud punk rock instrumentals.
Their music was a fresh take on 90’s grunge punk rock. It felt now while still playing tribute to what came before. The music seemed to draw roots from “Paramore” and old-school “Panic at the Disco.”
The lyrics to these songs can at times be a bit sad to even dark, yet the tune of the music is upbeat. “Ugly” was about wanting to better yourself. The tune was incredibly catchy and like the songs before, the audience was jamming out to it.
He also performed “Head Check”, his newest single which was released this June.
Letdown. Will be playing at Louder than Life on September 21 through September 24 in Louisville Kentucky. The fest is headlined by fellow rockers Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age, and Mayday Parade. 4-day passes are on sale now for $400, while 1-day passes are going for $150.
