What had been a beautiful spring sweater day was turning into a brisk evening. I slid my forest green winter coat on, passing over the brighter pink spring jacket I had worn earlier.
My boyfriend and I ditched the car and walked over to The Piggery. Given how cold it turned out to be we slightly regretted that decision but made up for it with some power walking! With the pace we were keeping it wasn’t long before warmth (and tacos!) were in sight.
Upon entering The Piggery, we found we had the entire place to ourselves. It was early for a pub at only 5:15 pm. Yet it was our dinner time, and we were starving and ready for grub!
We glanced at the digital menu although we already knew what we were going to choose: Margaritas and Tacos. It was Taco Tuesday after all, and The Piggery has a Tuesday special on Tacos, two for $5 and Margaritas for $6! The choice though was what type of taco. After some deliberation, I chose Chicken Tinga and Jake went with one Steak and one Chicken Tinga. When it came to the margs the decision was unanimous, Strawberry!
Early on a Tuesday
Although we were the only ones at the restaurant, our server gave us plenty of space and time to chit-chat without being overbearing. We really appreciate that! Especially since we had a lot to talk about. For only being a Tuesday, the week had already seemed long.
It was a different feeling being in an empty bar. The TVs were still on, but my voice only had that to compete with. I was using my bar shouty voice when really a normal level would have worked out just as fine. It was a bit of a relief to see more people trickle into the space toward the end of our visit. The green lights dangling from the ceiling really offered a vibe that only a busy bar could fill. It definitely was not a vibe meant for our early dinner Tuesday time spot.
Tacos and Margaritas
Before long, our Strawberry Margaritas came out in all their pink glory. The rims are covered in salt. I waited (this time) for our food to arrive before taking a sip.
Luckily, the taco plates arrived shortly after. I quickly added the two salsas, one a red veggie-filled sauce and the other a green salsa to my tacos. Before I could even take a bite, the taco beat me to the punch, by doing taco things and fell apart! The messiest foods always seem to be the best! It was flavorful and juicy. So good in fact I ordered two more.
After devouring my first two tacos I finally took a sip of my pink drink. The strawberry flavor shined through in not only color but flavor. The salt perfectly paired and added to the drink experience. I am usually not a salty person, but it was fantastic.
Really though, I generally avoid salt. It drives my boyfriend nuts. He absolutely loves seasonings and salt. Not me…usually! Even on a Margarita which I get requires salt. I usually try it with a bit of salt with the first sip but then end up avoiding the rest of the salt by drinking from the cleared-away portion of the glass.
This Strawberry Margarita was different though. I craved the salt. Maybe it was because this drink was sweet, or maybe I was just having a bizarre Tuesday. Either way, the drink was delicious. I took sips around the glass making sure to consume all the salt, getting the true flavor profile.
It was even colder by the time we left. We power walked home, which is a challenge to do on a full belly. Taco Tuesday had been a success!
I had a turkey Tuesday 😉 The tacos sound real yummy and made me want to have a taco!
Turkey Tuesday?! How fun!
